For optimal performance of the VMI tire building machines, good maintenance is essential. The mechanical PCR drum is an essential part of the tire building machine and in order to assure productivity and product quality, VMI recommends a full overhaul every 2 years or 500,000 cycles, whichever comes first.
To give maintenance staff more insight in the need for maintenance and enable to plan accordingly, VMI has developed a counter that registers the cycles a drum makes. This makes is easier to check when the service interval is near and should be scheduled.
Since a drum consists of 2 independent halves, each of them will be fitted with a 7 digit counter which can register up to about 20 years of use.
The counters can be retrofitted to the drum halves by a specialist during a regular drum overhaul at a VMI service center, or can be installed as option on new mechanical PCR drums.
This upgrade is available for the pneumatic type mechanical drum: 14”- 24”and Synchro type mechanical drum 16”- 24”.
